At Lightwoods Primary Academy we strive to provide a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment where every member of our community is valued and respected. Our broad, balanced, creative curriculum and enrichment activities provide opportunities for everyone to achieve and succeed. We celebrate our achievements, gifts and cultural diversity, irrespective of individual differences. Through a carefully planned and adapted curriculum, we develop each child intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually, so they are ready for the next stage in their education.
We work to ensure that all children access the curriculum, using a range of strategies designed to meet the needs of individuals. We recognise that at some points during a child’s school career, however, they may require additional support. Our staff are mindful of this and make every effort to ensure that any concerns are identified early, and appropriate steps taken to ensure the correct support is in place. This may be within the classroom, through quality first teaching, or through access to additional support in small groups or on an individual basis. Additional support available is outlined in our Whole School Provision Map.
Any concerns should be discussed with a child’s class teacher in the first instance. Our school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo), Mrs Timms, may then become involved if further support is needed. Mr Ashton (Vice Principal) also oversees Inclusion.
Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust highly values a holistic approach to supporting students with SEND. We are working collaboratively with external organisations to promote a range of SEND opportunities for students and their families.
Please see our SEND Information Report below or contact Mrs Kate Timms (SENCo) for more information.
