At Lightwoods Primary Academy, bullying of any nature will not be tolerated; we believe that every child has the right to a safe, supportive and caring environment where they can learn without the fear of bullying or harassment.
At Lightwoods we are committed to taking steps to ensure that instances of bullying are treated seriously so that our children have the freedom to express themselves and can develop within our community.
By definition, bullying is the use of aggression with the intention of hurting another person. Bullying is usually persistent and can take many forms:
Emotional: Being unfriendly, excluding from peer groups, and tormenting i.e. hiding possessions.
Physical: Pushing, kicking, hitting, other kinds of violence.
Racist: Racial taunts, graffiti, gestures, name calling.
Sexual: Sexual harassment (unwanted physical contact), sexual abuse/demeaning comments.
Homophobic: Because of or focusing on the issue of sexuality.
Verbal: Name calling, sarcasm, spreading rumours, teasing, threatening, intimidating.
Non-Verbal: Staring someone out, laughing at someone as a group.
Cyber: All inappropriate use of the internet or other forms of communication technology i.e. phones to send threatening messages, spread rumours, name call etc.
We encourage any act of bullying to be immediately reported to a member of staff. Any reports received will be dealt with swiftly and accordingly and will follow the school procedures.
Both as a school, and with parents, we will work collaboratively to ensure that all of our children have a safe and comfortable environment in order to learn and grow successfully.
